Syrian Defector: Assad behind "terrorist" bombs

In the interview aired on Al Jazeera English today with a Syrian regime insider who defected from the Assad regime, the defector, Abdullah al-Omar, says that most of the so-called terrorist bombs that went off in Damascus, while he was there, were actually setup by the regime to look like terrorist attacks mounted by the regime's opposition.

In a tactic also used by the Qaddafi regime in Libya in its propaganda war against the revolution, he describes corpses being placed at bomb sites to provide "victims" and not just corpses but also prisoners.

He is not the first high level Syrian defector to say this. But it bares repeating because so many on the US left, even here at the Daily Kos, are willing to accept any attribution from the Assad regime as gospel even though it has been shown for the hundredth and thousandth time that the Syrian government has as little regard for truth and integrity as it does for human life.

Turkey is not only home to more than 100,000 Syrian civilian refugees, but also high ranking defectors.

Abdullah al-Omar says he was one of the staff members in the Media Office of Bashar al-Assad, Syria's president.

He was privy to many of the secrets of the adminstration until his defection last September.

In an interview with Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught in Antakya, southern Turkey, Omar claimed the Assad regime knows it cannot hold onto power and has already made plans to escape to Russia.

case in point...
ANSWER Coalition backs Assad

When the US wars against Afghanistan and Iraq were just starting up just about a decade ago, the ANSWER Coalition played a leading role in the anti-war movement. I worked closely with them in those days.

More recently they have shown a darker side as their Stalinist perversion of Marxism and reliance on Russia have led them to support one fascist dictator who presents himself an anti-imperialist and then another.

I was on good terms with ANSWER until I published No Libyans allowed at ANSWER Libya forum, after that, it was a different matter.

They supported Mummar Qaddafi and organized national speaking tours to promote his regime's propaganda and denigrate his opposition.

Now they are doing the same thing for Bashar al-Assad. At anti-war protests planned for October 6 and 7 across the country to mark the 11th anniversary of the start of the War against Afghanistan, ANSWER simply lumps Syria in with Iran and raises the demand
No New War & Sanctions vs. Syria & Iran!

As though there was nothing special going on Syria that might call for an independent assessment, and on Wednesday they were published by SANA:
ANSWER National Coordinator: Armed Groups in Syria, Backed by Turkey, NATO and US, Commit Terrorist Actions

Oct 03, 2012

WASHINGTON DC, (SANA) – Brian Becker, the national coordinator of ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) which is a US-based anti-war group, said that the bombings that took place in Aleppo on Wednesday prove that that the armed groups in Syria which are supported by Turkey, the NATO and the US are committing terrorist actions.

In an interview with Russia Today channel on Wednesday, Becker said that the Syrian government is confronting terrorists who are trying to establish footholds in various areas according to what the US administration desires, adding that this administration wants nothing other than having the armed opposition achieve a military victory and prevent any possibility of negotiations.

He said that Saudi Arabia's failure to participate in the quartet meeting shows that the US administration sent a clear message to its allies and subservient countries to reject any kind of talks that could lead to resolving the Syrian crisis, and this administration is involved in coordinating with the Syrian opposition and their armed groups to extend the crisis.

Becker noted that the US State Department's announcement of not wanting to engage in a military intervention in Syria and make do with providing "non-lethal" support to the opposition simply means that the US will do everything other than send Marines, which includes coordinating with armed groups which effectively turns this support into a lethal one.

He said that the American public doesn't want any direct intervention in Syria, and that the US government is worried because of Russia and China's adherence to their opposition of any interference. Therefore, the US government realizes that if it becomes involved in a new conflict, it will be different from the one in Libya as it will find new international players waiting for it, making it's task difficult, which is why it resorted to supporting the armed groups and instructing Qatar and Saudi Arabia to do likewise.

Becker also said that there's considerable fear and concern among the Turkish public which doesn't want any war with Syria, while at the same time there's a Turkish government that serves the west and represents an extension of the NATO, and this government is coordinating and arranging specific movements on the borders that may be the prelude to a true military intervention.
